I do not agree with everything we publish(ed) in the magazines! Some statements I strongly disagree with, some visuals I just don’t like.

Hence – I wanted to get them published. I want our authors and contributors to express them- selves freely. I want to bear the discomfort of publishing something controversial – even something I dislike.

But then, at the same time, I do want to make the magazine I want, the magazine we as the “Kinbaku Society of Berlin” feel must come into being. So I take the hard and painful job, together with the designer, to select, to discriminate, and to refuse. Not everything proposed made it into this magazine. It is not personal – it is just to make the magazine better, to our taste. But most of all: it is not censorship – it is curating.

This issue is about our struggle, as kinksters and deviants, with the threat of censorship. Censorship has been a topic all along the history of modern kinbaku. It becomes more pressing every day in our modern society. As I’m writing this, Zetsu Nawa announced the shut-down of Ropeflix. We actually asked him to write an opinion piece on his view on censorship and how it impacts our scene – now you can read it under “The New Sex Police”, with a real cause, on Kinbaku Today.

I’m very sad that we lose this rich source of inspiration. The hits come closer, faster. Tumblr, OnlyFans, … Censorship comes in new clothes. It is not the committee of Cardinals anymore or a stalinist bureaucracy, but nameless bankers in an alliance with the new Christian Conservative who impose their moral and political view. We will need to find ways to deal with this new environment. It is not helpful that often the calls for suppressing an alternative point of view also come from our own camp. We all are prone to call for excluding discomfort and disagreement!

“This issue is about our struggle, as kinksters and deviants, with the threat of censorship. “

In this magazine we collected different essays on this topic – shining light on it from different, even controversial angles. It is not super hot – but the general topic seemed to be pressing enough that we wanted to dedicate some space for it.

But – exhale – we also have dirty Porn! And somehow, that’s how we stand up against censorship. We do what we like. We do it ethically. We do not care what the bigots think. This is our expression. The darker, shameful parts of our human soul want to speak, too. This is our space. We – the kinky ones, the deviants, need this space. So we also celebrate aliveness and free expression with this magazine. Art has always found its way – and always will.

Maybe this art is not for the masses. This art needs understanding and human connection. We – as a collective – also grew together over this summer. First time since Winter 2020 a larger group of contributors came together in Berlin to meet each other in real life, to research, to share and to socialise. There are no membership cards for the Kinbaku Society of Berlin. There are just people who are like-minded and continue to serve the idea.

This magazine is made for us – we share our opinions but moreover: our passion. You – our readers – make this magazine meaningful. Your support keeps us growing. Maybe you don’t like every single item in our magazine. But I hope, this time again, we could create something inspiring, something nurturing fo r you.

The nights get longer, the days colder – autumn is coming to Berlin. Grab a cup of tea or a glass of wine and read on: I hope you have some beautiful feelings…
