Spring… an outburst of life energy, again. From bare trees to maygreen. Soon the fresh leaves will turn yellow, then brown. Aliveness, bearing already the destination of death. The cycle of life. We change. Our skin changes. It gets the traces of our life imprinted. Wrinkles. Rope marks. Rope burn. Scars.
Skin became the topic of our research for this issue.
Our skin is our border. It separates what we are from the external, what we are not. Skin is the canvas, the screen. Since time began, we alter our skin. We dress and undress. We show and hide. And we mark our skin with ink. When we do this – we send a message.
How is this relevant to Kinbaku? We spoke with a Tattoo artist, who also is involved in BDSM and Kinbaku. We present a photographer who worked extensively with the Yakuza and yet another artist who combines skin with ink, in a bit less permanent way.
Change is necessary. How will this magazine evolve? How can we make it meaningful? How can we make the magazine better, how to be more reachable for you?
First time, we explicitly asked for contributions. We present a work from another photographer here: The white canvas. We want to encourage you, dear readers. When you have something interesting to share – send us a note. We prefer text, fiction or nonfiction, essays, poetry and hand-made art such as drawings
over photography.
A very full spring season is behind us. We have met in person, almost everyone who makes us the Berlin Kinbaku SOCIETY. 16 people right now. We did creative projects together. We also worked on how to create a meaningful future for the Society – and the magazine.
Stay tuned.
But for now… enjoy an ice-cold drink, lean back. It’s summer. Lazy time. Flip through the pages.
It’s a different paper – do you feel it?
I hope you get excited – as excited we were putting it together.
Enjoy…
